Placing Your Tooth Root Replacements
Total Health Dental Care offers top quality dentistry services at our Oakland and Berkeley locations, including implant dentistry for patients with missing teeth. We provide our work to give you the best possible oral and total health.
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that Dr. Sepand Hokmabadi surgically places into the jawbone, providing a long-term, stable base for prosthetic teeth. The restoration of missing teeth allows individuals to enjoy improved chewing, comfort, and confidence thanks to their rejuvenated smile. For these reasons, we are champions of implant dentistry, as the technique can restore the functionality and health of a patient’s teeth.

How Implant Dentistry Works
Implant dentistry is one of the most effective methods for tooth replacement. Implants are long-lasting and stable, and the prosthetics that are affixed to them blend in seamlessly with surrounding teeth. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing and natural-looking, dental implants are also highly functional. Implant dentistry puts an end to the discomfort, eating challenges, and speech difficulties associated with missing teeth, and can have a tremendously positive impact on a person’s oral health. There are two main phases of implant dentistry:
- Phase 1: During the bone grafting procedure, the original tooth roots may have to be removed to make room for the dental implants. Titanium posts are implanted into the jawbone in order to perform just like a natural tooth root would. All procedures are completed using the most advanced and accurate dental tools. Over time, the jawbone heals and starts to grow around at the implant in a natural process called osseointegration.
- Phase 2: Once placed, a dental prosthetic – such as a dental crown or bridge – is connected to the titanium post. The new prosthetic looks, feels, and performs just like a natural tooth. Depending on the needs of the patient, multiple implant posts may be placed side-by-side, or implants may be placed at each end of a gap before placing a crown or bridge on top.
